This is not my song. Although I have written and recorded it, this is your song. This is not necessarily my pain and suffering, but it is my anger. This is me trying to put my finger on what’s missing when we perceive injustice. We all need a voice and for that voice to be heard. Too often in life we are left feeling small, silent and forgotten.

I am not the narrator of this song -- I am a 50 something, middle class white guy -- but I do firmly believe in the message of this song. I need you to see just what I’m worth. For some, it’s apparent. For all too many though, the need to feel accepted, validated, believed and not pushed aside is all too real. It is that person who is singing this song.

This song is a protest song and at its heart a folk song. I would love nothing more than for this song to be taken up, and the refrain collectively shouted to those who oppress and discriminate, YOU ARE GOING TO HEAR US!
